Animal laws in Louisiana - Dogs trespassing - what can I do?d?

I live in Louisiana. Moved to the neighborhood 6 months ago. Neighborhood dogs (INCLUDING PIT BULLS) keep trespassing on my property. I have young children. I have called the police TWICE. There is even a sign posted when entering the neighboring stating "Loose animals are punishable by fine, etc...". I am baffled and loosing my patience. I'm not going to continue to call the police while hoping that one of my children isn't mangled. Any suggestions? **The purpose of this question is to find out what my legal rights are. (i.e. Can I shoot the dogs?), so please spare me all condescending and/or moral comments and advice. Thanks in advance!
