What would cause a spark plug to break?

Usually the only way those plugs can get damaged is putting them in or taking them out. It is easy to do especially on the fire wall side of the engine if one is not careful and attentive to the possibilities of damage to the plug caused by the plug socket or trying to get the wire off with pliers or some sort of pry bar.
